The role of assembly companies (EMS) has changed radically as a result of both component allocation and a supply chain that has been completely shattered during the pandemic and the explosive growth in the need for components. There are examples where electronics manufacturers have been told that they will only be able to obtain components in four years.
Thus, EMS companies become valuable partners both in terms of sourcing (purchasing) components, but also for developing parallel designs, so that an electronics company can produce form- and function-compliant, mounted IoT prints, regardless of the components available. This requires interaction between design and production people, but also flexibility.
Several EMSs have also developed their own IoT designs for data collection and gateway function, and this facilitates the design of many kinds of IoT systems.
