"IoT" – the Internet of Things – is the basis for all intelligent data exchange between products and network structures in today's and tomorrow's society.
Strictly speaking, the concept has existed as "M2M communication" (machine-to-machine) for roughly three decades, but with an intelligent distribution and use of data, IoT becomes a tool for countless functions, daily help for users and energy optimization all over the world.
At the same time, both private and professional smartphones and tablets become universal remote controls and surveillance devices – even though IoT products can operate completely outside the traditional data hierarchies (OT level = operating technology – typically without human intervention).
