It all began with a simple observation: When the engineer Otto Dunkel saw a man sweeping with a bush broom, the idea for a new contact principle was born.

The structure of the broom inspired him to use the wire spring contact, for a permanently reliable electrical connection.

In 1942, Otto Dunkel founded ODU, laying the foundation for the company's history. This was followed in 1955 by the patent for the spring-loaded connector pin, now known as ODU SPRINGTAC.® In the decades that followed, further innovations such as ODU-MAC® and the ODU MINI-SNAP® series were created.

Today, ODU stands worldwide for precise connector systems in industry, medical technology, measurement and testing technology as well as in the security sector.
